No. Location is off by default, and signing in or pairing does not enable it. Starting a walk or commute also does not silently turn location on.
Current-journey sharing
For a selected walk or commute, the traveller chooses Off, Approximate, or Precise. The choice is visible and can be changed, paused, or stopped during the journey. The paired person receives only the status and location detail currently allowed by the server.
Separately approved continuous sharing
StrideSafe Plus includes an optional continuous mode outside an active commute. It is a separate explicit setting, remains Off by default, requires appropriate system location permission, may show the system background indicator, and can be stopped from iPhone or Apple Watch.
What is stored
Both modes use one replaceable latest-location row. New approved coordinates replace the previous point; StrideSafe does not create a coordinate route history. A stale commute point is not presented as current.
Ways to end access
Pause, Stop, arrival with auto-end, journey end, revoke, sign-out, and account deletion all reduce or remove access. Delayed older messages are not allowed to beat a newer privacy-reducing command.
