Privacy and consent
Connection is not consent to location sharing.
Stride Safe treats pairing, step sharing and location sharing as separate choices. This page explains the behaviour implemented in the app; it is not a substitute for a legally reviewed, binding privacy policy.
Publication note
This product-privacy summary is based on the current app and backend implementation. Legal entity details, jurisdiction, final contact addresses, processor disclosures and policy dates still require confirmation before this page is published as a binding legal policy.
Sharing starts with your choice
Connecting with another person does not turn on location. When starting a supported walk or commute, the traveller chooses Off, Approximate or Precise for that journey. Off is the default. The traveller can pause, reduce or stop sharing while the journey is active.
The app requests location permission only when a supported location-sharing feature needs it. Device permissions can also be changed in iOS Settings. If permission or current consent is missing, partner-facing location is unavailable.
Steps and location are separate
Step sharing can remain active while location stays off. Stride Safe reads daily and recent step totals through Apple Health with read-only access, or through the iPhone pedometer. It does not request permission to write step samples or workouts. The current implementation shares step summaries, not raw HealthKit samples.
Who can see a shared journey
Partner access depends on an accepted, active connection and an active journey with current sharing consent. Either person can disconnect the pairing. A revoked connection should immediately make partner information unavailable.
Approximate and precise modes
Approximate mode is redacted on the server before partner access. Precise coordinates are available only for a current journey in Precise mode. The interface distinguishes Off, Paused, Unavailable, Stale, Arrived and Ended states so an old update is not presented as current.
What location is retained
The backend stores one replaceable latest approved location snapshot for the current journey. It does not store an append-only coordinate route history. New approved updates replace the current snapshot, and end, stop, revoke and deletion paths clear or block access according to the implemented retention rules.
Watch controls and delayed messages
Pause, Stop and sharing Off are reachable on Apple Watch. Privacy-reducing commands may queue if the iPhone is temporarily unavailable. Starting or increasing sharing requires the iPhone to be reachable, which prevents a delayed command from silently enabling more sharing later.
Account and data deletion
Stride Safe includes an in-app deletion flow. The backend deletion path covers the account and associated pairing, commute, reaction, step-summary and latest-location data. Disconnecting is available separately when a user wants to end a pairing without deleting the account.
Analytics, advertising and payments
The audited app does not include a third-party analytics SDK, crash-reporting SDK, advertising SDK, subscription flow or in-app purchase implementation. Sensitive coordinates, destinations, partner content, access tokens and health samples must not be added to logs or marketing systems.
Security boundaries
Authentication, pairing, consent and partner-visible data are enforced by the backend as well as the interface. Exposed database tables use row-level security. Server responses omit or redact coordinates when current consent does not allow the requested detail.
Safety limitations
Stride Safe can help trusted people stay connected during a selected journey, but it does not guarantee anyone’s safety. It is not an emergency service, does not contact emergency responders, and should not replace local emergency services or an agreed personal safety plan.
Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent to PRIVACY_EMAIL_PLACEHOLDER. Do not include precise location history, access tokens, passwords or raw health data in a support message.
